Labrador Puppies for sale – Why Remove Dew Claws
Labrador Puppies for sale often are listed as having their dew claws removed. But should they be? More breeders are choosing to either remove the dew claws themselves and/or offer it as an additional paid "service" as part of buying the pup from them. This seems to be done in an effort maintain the aesthetic of the animal itself - no ugly dew claws pointing out from their paw for example. Plus to somebody who has never owned a Lab before they'll have no idea whether or not removing those claws is the right thing to do.

However if you ask anyone who has trained their Lab as a working dog they won't lose any time in letting you know that removing dew claws on a dog makes absolutely no sense - except perhaps in the case of rear dew claws which are quite rare. Ideally rear dew claws would be removed on any dog as they serve no real purpose and will almost certainly get snagged in something sooner or later.
In terms of front dew claws it's been demonstrated by many people that for working dogs front dew claws are almost essential to them being able to grip slippery or difficult surfaces to help them climb out of or over something. In fact some owners will even argue that basic things like being able to hold a chew bone will also depend on the dog's dew claws being present.

So why have breeders suddenly decided to start removing these claws if there's no reason for it? The decision to remove a Labrador puppy’s dew claws is a growing trend based on the opinions of others that dew claws are a source of infection or can possibly catch when the dog is running through heavy vegetation. But the evidence of this seems inconclusive. If nothing else is certain it's that the issue of removing dew claws, or not for that matter, isn't going to be resolved anytime soon.

If you want to look at it logically why would you remove something from a working dog that's been there for hundreds of thousands of years? Nature decided that your dog needed those claws so it might be best to leave nature be with that adorable Labrador puppy?
